We are now a B Corp!

We are so proud to announce that JP's Originals is now a certified B Corporation, after completing a year long application of having every inch of our business combed through to asses why we make the cut.

There is so much more to JP's Originals than what meets the eye. In a world riddled with overconsumption, plastic waste, unethical businesses and solely profit-driven organisations, we take huge pride being among the businesses who are making a change to this narrative.

The reason B Corp means so much to us is because it serves as a benchmark for our business to grow further in our sustainability actions and push the boundaries in what we believe is the direction in which most businesses should be moving. We are proud to be a part of a community balancing profit with people and planet, and look forward to continuing on our path to better business practices!

What is B Corp?

B Lab is a non profit network transforming the global economy to benefit all people, communities and the planet. B Corp, where the B stands for 'benefit for all', is working to change the economic system to positively impact all stakeholders: workers, communities, customers and our planet. The B Corp movement has slowly been growing - you may have noticed the logo on some of your favourite products like Vita Coco, Patagonia, Lily's Kitchen and Evian.

Over time, businesses have been more focussed on delivering a good or service and their bottom line. With the technology revolution and the evolution of consumer tastes, plus endless choices, businesses are now expected to uphold a particular standard of practice. Becoming a B Corp is not an easy feat either. Having decided that our businesses practices as a company were focussed on the good for the planet, customers and the community, we started the rigorous application process in Summer 2021. 200 questions later, our application was submitted and we were then through to the next round which was proving the answers to several randomly selected questions. The questions were divided into sections: Governance, Workers, Community, Environment, and Customers. Within each section, responses were weighted with points with a total minimum score of 80 to be reached. Our score was... drumroll please... 96.6! We are absolutely thrilled to have achieved the score we did. Despite being a tiny business, we are so proud to continue to use our business as a force for good. The median score for ordinary businesses who complete the assessment is currently 50.9.

Tell me more about B Corps!
There are currently around 4,600 businesses globally certified as B Corps, since its inception in 2006. There are around 600 B Corps in the UK, with just over half of the businesses from London.

B Corp Month

As more and more businesses continue to maintain a higher standard by not only delivering a quality product, but also whilst considering the environment and communities as well as giving back too. March has been named B Corp month, raising awareness amongst consumers so that they can feel more confident when shopping, as well as encourage more businesses to improve business practices.

B Lab have launched a pop-up in Fitzrovia - Good News - a newsagent showcasing a handful of B Corp brands for you to view for this month only. Pop in to check it out if you are in the area: Good News, 10 Rathbone Pl, London W1T 1HP.

(They also have a vending machine of complimentary snacks!)
